As we made our way out to Palm Springs for the Stagecoach Music Festival, we came across an iconic landmark of California - the windmill farm. These massive metal towers that spring up, seemingly out of nowhere, are the Sequoias of the desert. Growing up in Southern California, I had seen images of them or driven by them countless times. My imagination told me they were spaceships that are used for evacuating the planet (I had an imagination)! In school we learned how the windmills powered the city of Palm Springs and the entire Coachella Valley. Of course I had to stop and actually see them for myself. We pulled off the freeway and stopped on the side of the road. Now, there is a tour you can take that will get you really close to them, and I will come back to take that tour but, we had a festival to get to and only had a couple of minutes to stop. If you are on the 10 freeway and you see these white metal giant, pull over to a safe spot, get out of your car, and snap a few pics. If you do have time, take the tour - I hear it’s amazing.
