Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch

Every year for Halloween I scour the internet in search of finding a pumpkin patch in the Los Angeles area that lives up to this image I had from my childhood. An open field, complete with a scarecrow, lined with rows and rows of pumpkins where you hunt for what will become the perfect Jack-o-lantern. After loading it into the car, you celebrate with a cup of warm cider. Okay, I may have imagined it after watching, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” (A Halloween must see!), but it was burned into my memory and I have been searching for it ever since! As my search continued this year one place kept popping up over and over again as the number one pumpkin patch to see in Los Angeles, Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch. There were pictures of houses made of pumpkins and I was sold, I had to see it!

Fighting through rush hour traffic we made our way towards Culver City till we reached the dusty parking lot that lead to our destination. Walking through the gates you get a Nightmare Before Christmas vibe and the place is packed with families. Giant statues of skeletons and other spooky characters peer down on you as walk through the carnival-like atmosphere trying to decide what to do first. There is something for kids of all ages: a petting zoo, carnival games, houses made of pumpkins, bouncy houses, giant slides, and of course lots of pumpkins to choose from. The only thing missing is The Great Pumpkin! While I’m not giving up on finding that perfect pumpkin patch from my childhood, if you live in the LA area this might be as close to perfect Halloween fun for the whole family.

Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me

Bring your pup along. Dogs are welcome here just make sure they stay on a leash and you pick up after them.

Check the weather. October weather in Los Angeles is amazing. During the day it tends to be warm to hot, so I would bring sunscreen. However at night the temperature does cool down quite a bit and you’ll probably need a sweater.

If you are hungry do not fret. There are food trucks located at the southern end of the patch and they take credit cards.

You can bring food! You can bring food and drinks with you but no alcohol, this is a family place.

Ladies and gentlemen, gather round! There is live entertainment for the whole family from 2pm-6pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

They have a petting zoo! Enough said!

Things You Will Need

Money All vendors accept credit cards and cash. It can get pretty pricey with all the tickets, so look into the Ultimate kids pass, it will save you a ton of cash.

A lightweight sweater It can get a little chilly.

Sunscreen. If you come in the afternoon you may need it.

A camera you can bring in any camera that you’d like. My phone worked perfectly for this. Make sure you get a photo of the houses made of pumpkins...pretty cool.

Have a spooky good time!
